From the supplier: General Electric Capital Services Inc. (GE Capital) has agreed to pay $950 million to Leucadia National Corp. for Colonial Penn P and C Group. The acquisition will give GE Capital an entry into the auto insurance business and the opportunity to sell other financial services to Colonial Penn’s policyholders, whose average age is 50 years. Colonial Penn’s pretax earnings totaled approximately $73 million in 1996. GE Capital and Colonial Penn had previously worked together to sell auto insurance to GE Capital customers.
